West Coast Trail, Vancouver Island

The West Coast Trail runs roughly 75 kilometres along the southwest coast of Vancouver Island, inside Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. It was built in the 1890s as a lifesaving route for shipwreck survivors, connecting lighthouses and telegraph stations along one of the most dangerous stretches of coastline in North America. This series isn't a record of the trail itself — it's about the people on it, and the textures and quiet moments found along the way.
